Manta Ray Diving with Gentle Giants
Manta Reef is rated as one of the “top 10” diving destinations in the world, with unrivalled manta encounters. Since the 1960s, this spectacular reef has become the area’s signature reef, attracting enthusiastic scuba divers from all over the world. It was even featured prominently in the BBC documentary “Andrea – Queen of Mantas.”
Your dive starts with a negative backroll into a 24m aquarium before gradually falling. You’ll be surrounded by 15-meter-high pinnacles and a plethora of life. The painted frogfish, shrimp, and nudibranchs will appeal to macro fans in particular, but keep an eye out for passing whale sharks, enormous barracudas, and, of course, our beautiful manta rays.
Your Manta Ray Experience
As your dive develops, you’ll come across little caves carved out of the reef’s bottom, where you’ll witness loggerhead turtles, big morays, ribbon eels, and a variety of lesser rays. You’ll approach your first cleaning station by moving carefully and gently onto a plateau. To avoid interfering with the manta’s daily cleaning process, stay behind your guide and low. Balls of beautifully coloured cleaner wrasse and goldies await their arrival in this area. This dive is magnificent in high visibility, with up to six manta rays circling at any given moment. Your ascension at the end of the dive is frequently accompanied by circling devil rays and curious remoras, who are as enchanted by you as you are by them.
